Few more questions regarding our Trip in June
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hey everyone,

We have everything booked for our trip in June, I just had some final questions to make sure we enjoy our stay as much as possible

Few minor details: We are staying at a house on Zoni Beach, for 2 nights. '

1) Our flight arrives around 3pm or so into SJU, and we are going straight to Culebra. What options do we have? I know the ferry is the cheapest, but what else exists (besides private plane, too much $$).

2) If we take the ferry, do we need to buy tickets well before the date or how does it work?

3) What should we do for food, esp on the arrival night? We will be renting a car only on the one full day we are there, so we will not have one the night before and after. Do we need to buy groceries in Fajardo or should we wait until we are in Culebra? Also, what about alcohol that first night?

4) What is recommended for snorkeling and/or scuba diving on the island?

Thanks and I look forward to your responses!

If you carry on your bags, you will have time to get a cab to Isla Grande airport and catch the 4:30 flights on either Air Flamenco or Vieques Air Link.

Otherwise you will need to catch a cab to Fajardo and catch the 7:00 pm ferry. If you take the ferry you should have time to buy tickets in advance as you will be arriving early.

The grocery stores close at 7:00 pm so if you catch the ferry you will have difficulty finding food. Many restaurants close around 9:00 but you may find food at El Batey or Heathers pizza, etc. after that time. If you fly, you will have time to buy groceries or many restaurants to choose from.

Snorkeling is good at Melones, Zoni, Carlos Rosario, Soldado and Tamarindo Beaches. Just ask around. There are two scuba divers on island - check the threads for help.

Have fun.

How much do tickets run on the Air Flamenco/Vieques Air link? I've heard conflicting amounts.

We are arriving on a Saturday at 3pm.

Air Flamenco is $105 per person, round trip from Isla Grande airport.

That's what I figured, a bit out of our budget. I think taking the taxi to Fajardo and ferrying it out would be the best option.

Eric,

The cab fare can be as much as $80 to Fajardo, so if there are only two of you, the airfare is not that much more expensive. If there are more of you then the ferry is much more economical.

Have a great trip.

There will be 4 of us going, so yeah, it looks like the cab will be the best option.

We are renting a car from the owners of the house we are staying on Zoni, but only for the one full day we are there. Should we rent it for two days?

Unless you plan on staying at Zoni beach the whole time, it's a long walk to town. And trying to carry a few cases of beer and supplies from town out to Zoni under your arm is a daunting task. I would go for a two day rental and travel around the island if you and your guests have not seen it. Or staying on Zoni beach the whole time is quite pleasant as well.

Here is what our plan was

Saturday: Take cab from SJU to Fajardo, get some groceries/alcohol and dinner, take the ferry out. The house owner will pick us up, and drive us to the house.

Sunday: Rent the car, drive around the island, visit some of the other beaches (Flamenco), and eat/visit in town

Monday: Relax on Zoni, and go back into town to ride the ferry back to San Juan.

So that is why I am only renting the car for Sunday, unless there is thought I should rent it more

That sounds like a good plan. You should be all set with the one day car rental. Enjoy your trip!!!
