Walking Distances on Culebra
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hi..We are staying at Flamenco beach campground for 4 days in March. We were wondering the distances of places walking from the campground...
1. a grocery store
2. ferry dock
3.Mamacitas and other restaurants
4. El Eden, Pandeli
5. atm machine

Also, are publicos everywhere. How do you get on one and where do they go? What are the prices? Do they run all night?

Last question..Is it safe for 2 adults to walk around at night?

Thank you Fawn

Boy, Richard, your 3:00 a.m. postings are not the most helpful. :(

Fawn - it's a long way (maybe 3-5 miles?) from the beach to the ferry dock/center of town, where are the amenities you are looking for are located. If you are camping at the beach and you don't have a car, you should get all your provisions before taking a publico out to the beach. After the last ferry runs for the day, it can be difficult to get a publico to come out to the beach to get you to run an errand. The groceries stay open, at lastest, 7:00pm. There is one that is away from town that is open until 9:00, but it would not be likely that you would be able to get a publico at the beach to take you into town after sundown. There are kioskos at the beach selling food and drinks during daylight hours. Publicos cost $2 per person one way to the beach. It is safe to wander anywhere around Culebra at night, even for a single female adult.

Happy Diving!
Debbie

Culebra is very safe at night but the walk into town is not practical considering it's about 4 or 5 miles. Walking this distance in the heat during the day is not practical. you can pretty much get a publico at Flamenco during the daylight hours till about 6:00 to 7:00 PM. If you are in town the best way to get a publico back to Flamenco is to walk to the ferry dock which is where they all park. If you attempt to walk to town or back to Flamenco and get tiresd, you can always flag down a publico with a simple wave of the hand. The price of this transportation is $2.00 per person

Enjoy
