You can body surf most days right off the beach break on the right side of Flamenco. Some days you can get surfable waves, but the ride's short. Most days are closeout conditions.

If you're surfing skills are strong, you can try paddling out to the reef off Flamenco beach, but I'd caution you that it's a far paddle, strewn with coral heads. When you get out there, the break is decent most days (lefts and rights), but again, the rides are relatively short. I usually surf a 6'3" thruster out there, and it works for me. Bring a buddy.

Do not attempt to surf Resaca or Brava, unless you're good, and feel comfortable with rip currents, undertow, etc. Again, I wouldn't advise going it alone.

RE: shells - When I was a kid (like 25 years ago now) I'd find all sorts of shells - conch, cowries, etc. all bright and beautiful, and many quite large. That was before Culebra was on the map, so to speak, and the beaches hadn't been picked over. You can still find places to go shell hunting, though. Try the Caribbean side, rather than the Atlantic side. We see more tourists in the winter months - especially around new year's - so anything washed up by storms in the previous months goes pretty quick.
