Club Seabourne or Costa Bonita
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hi. I booked 4 nights in May at Costa Bonita, but I'm seriously considering cancelling that and staying at Club Seabourn.

My main reason is Club Seabourne is closer to everything, and CS is slightly cheaper.

Does anyone have any recent experiences at these hotels?

I'm especially interested in hearing about Club Seaborne. One person on the forum said the bar and restaurant were closed during their stay. That's sort of a major drawback to me, I'd like to be able to get a drink while hanging out at the pool, or some light food.

Thanks!

I have seen both, but not stayed. Costa Bonita is like a large hotel, Seabourne is beautiful, surrounded by nature, as opposed to Costa Bonita.
Seabourne is expensive as CB.
If it was me, I'd go for Seabourne, however, it does not has the view as CB.

seabourne is small scale and a beautiful location. nice amenities. I cannot speak to the hours kept by restaurant and bar. It is stilll more of the regular setting of culebra and its communtiy than costa bonita which is isloated and sits. some would say rather fittingly, somewhat ponderously off the edge of the island -- it is not integrated among the community, yet, becasue it is large - is not the kind of isolation you might seek in being "away" from everything else as you might at Harborview Villas or Tamarindo Estates.

Costa Bonita's septic is over flowing. The regatta they just had was a mess....a stinky toxic mess.

JimW - I would choose Seaborne. Don't get too worked up about something being closed while you're there. This is not corporate America - businesses keep their own hours, and not everything is open all the time, and you have to learn to make your way around that. It's part of the charm of Culebra. So, if the bar at Seaborne is closed (never seen it closed on my trips; perhaps the instance referred to was during "off" season), make the best of it - drive into town, get some beer, wine, mixers, whatever your pleasure, store in your room, and be your own bartender. What's that expression? Make lemonade out of lemons? or something like that. . .

Happy Diving!
Debbie

I stayed there recently - Feb 27-March 2. The bar and restaurant were closed on Tuesday and Wed night. They told me they're normally closed on Monday, too, but a big group was dining there that Monday so they were open. I didn't mind AT ALL that the restaurant and bar were closed. As Debbie suggested, it could be becuase we were still in their off-season, I don't know. We would go into town for dinner, and that was fine. If it's that important to you, then I would suggest calling them and asking about their restaurant and bar hours during your stay. We had a great stay without the bar - though the bartender is awesome! We had drinks there on Monday night and it was great...
