Traveler's Checks?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hi- I am wondering if it is a good idea to bring traveler's checks to the island instead of all cash? Do most places accept them? If not, is it possible to go to a bank and cash one whenever we need more cash?
I am not sure I am comfortable bringing all cash and am hoping travelers checks are an option. If they are not- is it because most- if not all businesses accept credit cards?
Please let me know what your experiences have been and what you advise...thanks to all who have posted positive, informing posts on this site! ( I did a search on this subject before posting- but couldn't find this exact subject discussed- so thanks in advance for any advice you can pass on!) Cheers!

We were able to use credit cards at many places and there's an ATM at the banco that we also hit a couple of times.

We brought probably $400 initially. You will be safe carrying cash on Culebra...the only danger would be dropping it. I felt quite safe and secure on Culebra (and Vieques as well). Everyone was quite friendly and helpful.

I have no idea about TC since I haven't used them in years.

We found most places take credit cards, even the smaller stores.

I went last year and took Travelers Checks just to be "more safe than sorry".
I found them to be a hassle though. All places seemed fine taking them, but with the island being as safe as it was, and the checks being an extra few steps to use, just made them more hassle than they were worth.
I agree with Peter that the biggest fear with bringing cash would be the fear of misplacing it somewhere.
I will be coming down again in a few weeks and I will be bringing a little cash, but will mainly use my credit card.
