safety for two women

Thanks for replying to my first message! We really appreciated the feedback.

How about safety -- we are a little concerned about the two women travelling alone. Do you think that the island is very safe or would you not recommend that two women like us travel alone there?

Also what accomodations do you recommend and that are still available? We have are students so more like economy travelers :o).

Thanks so much!!

Hello,
it's me again. Just to add on to my previous message.

I just called a couple of guesthouses. How do I get in touch with them? Do you know any phone numbers I can call directly?

I tried to call three guesthouses but nobody was in so I am going to email them.

I am getting the phone numbers from only the guesthousese that have websites. Do you know of any guesthouses that do not have theirs advertised and in this case do you know how I can contact them.

Thank you so much!!

I stayed for 2 weeks in culebra last year at Mamacitas guest house and culebra beach villas. they are both great but very different. mamacitas is for the traveler who wants to meet people. It has a restaurant/bar and great music on weekends. Culebra beach villas is for the traveler who doesnt want to see or hear anybody in culebra for the whole vacation. good luck and enjoy culebra

I traveled with my husband, yet often we were apart either on the beach or shopping and I always felt very safe when I was alone. He too, felt confident and safe when he left me that I would be alright, even on isolated beaches. The local police are always driving down the streets in town and on the roads throughout the island. On Flamenco there are 4x4 patrols that go up and down the beach every hour or so.
I stayed at Villa Flamenco Beach, the other hotel on the beach. The room we had was very clean, modern and nice. It is quiet and private and I would highly recommend it. The lodging list on this website has all of the phone numbers there are. Keep in mind these people are not waiting by the phone for it to ring like a large resort hotel or chain (would you if you lived in paradise!). Leave them a message and they will get back to you. If they have e-mail, write them. I have found you get a response much faster that way.
