From Culebra guesthouses to the price of beer
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I just spent the whole evening reading up on Culebras! There are so many fab reviews about this island alone that my heart is now set to visit as a last minute trip. (I'm in desperate need of R&R!)
So I found the airfare which is doable and now, I need to budget the rest the trip out in order to convince DH that we can do this as such short notice...next month! Can anyone advise me on the following? It's a lot... hee

1. If I book this flight, we will be arriving past midnight. Could anyone advise of a safe and inexpensive accommodations closest the San Juan airport? We just need to crash for the night before continuing on.

2. Should we purchase an igloo/ice/water, etc. before heading to Culebra? What would be more economical? Where can we go? I plan on packing ultra light.

3. How does the taxi service work from the hotel to Fajardo? What is the custom for tipping?

4. I'm having a hard time figuring out how to preserve our budget while staying in Culebra. The max I had in mind was $300 for the week, which after some research, I found is laughable! :)

* I think it would be great for us to camp out on Flamenco Beach for a couple of days - is there an online map of the campsite?
* What's the best spot for privacy?
* When is it usually busy there? Where is the closest spot for cheap eats?
* What's the condition of the bathrooms? Is it mosquito ridden? (I read a review about an inn some place that had mosquito ridden bathrooms...*shiver*)
* How far to town for cheap local eats and for groceries (fresh veggies/meats/fish/fruits/water/deli).
* Is there any way to get a hold of Willie by phone? ;)

5. Where is the nearest laundromat - how much is it for
the washer/dryer and what are the hours?

6. I've already checked out the www.culebra.net site but don't see any menus posted yet. Can anyone advise which restaurants to hit for
* cheap local eats (nothing fancy, just down home grub!)
* fresh fish
* best coffee (iced coffee?)
I would LOVE prices as this would help me better prepare financially. This is a last minute trip to de-stress so we're limited!
* generally, how much are beers and how much are drinks at Mamacita's?

7. Websites are limited in description of the following guest houses/inns:

* Capt. Guzman, you've mentioned the following spots on these boards. Could you ellaborate as to whether either or both have adequate hot water as well as which room you prefer and why? please :)
~ Villa Fulladoza
~ Villa Boheme

* Villa Melones, has anyone been? What's the cost?
* Palmetto Guest House - anyone been?
* Posada La Hamaca?
* Mamacita's? (can you hear the music from the room??)

8. Where are the jeep rentals located in relation to the dock?

hmm..I think that's it! heh! Thanks in advance for your input! :)
