i will be camping in Culebra (in a few days!)- and I wondered if stove fuel is readily available?

Also, any tips about camping there and low-budget vacationing would be appreciated!
Thanks,
kathleen

Camping there is good, remember that when the day ends, close to 6pm, there is a period that mosquitoes bother for a while.
It is the high season now, so... supplies move very fast, and come to the island not so fast.
Whatever you can carry with you is better.
Hotel Puerto Rico, is the cheapest, it is also not so clean, for one night maybe two, not so bad.
Always ask for a discount, you may get a room for $50, even if it is not worth it. Their phone 787 742 3742.

Nice stay, happy holidays,

Kathleen, to my understanding it is prohibited to bring stove fuel (propane) in the ferry and aircraft. You might be able to find it in Culebra.

You can rent camping supplies and stove fuel on flamenco beach at the campground. Call Franklin at 787-226-0232

Kathleen,
We called a camping store on the mainland today for this very reason. We're trying to decide which backpacking stove to bring with us from Maine in January. The guy @ Acampa said that Coleman Fuel is widely available, but iso-butane canisters (for a Pocket Rocket) are not. With this information, we plan to bring the Whisperlite with an empty fuel bottle and fill it down there. I was fairly certain this would be allowed on the ferries.
Sure does make camping a more cumbersome chore than usual if all these things can only be rented! I'm an experienced backpacker and LNT camper and like to have my own equipment with me.

Pack your fuel tight and deap in your bag, because it is only allowed on the fuel cargo that runs Wed.

Would Coleman fuel be available on either island? That way we would just fill up there and not transport between the two or from the mainland. I picture the stores to be small like St. John and not stocked for this sort of thing. Perhaps I'm mistaken?
