trail to resaca beach?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I've heard that you can get to Resaca Beach by going; via the old navy look out post (above Flamenco), by hiking the shore or by going from the big radio antennae.

anyone know the best way? hiking along the shore looks next to impossible (as seen from the air)

from the air i could see where a trail leaves the beach, but after a couple hundred feet i lost it in the shrubs.

thanks

There is a trail beginning at the end of the road that passes through Villa Muneco, a circular asphalt parking area downhill from the old radio antenna site. The trail is not clearly marked. It is on private property and is not maintained. If you want to go with someone the first time down, you can call Gardo or Jovino who work with PR Department of Natural and Environmental Resources, they are checking the beach for sea turtle activity and can show you the way. Their number is 787-742-0720.

There is a trail and it is a bit hard to find but most of it is marked with white fabric. I was just there last week and actually hiked the shore line from Flamenco all the way to Resaca. It was a bit rough. It is possible though. I would make sure you bring along hiking sandals and have some knowledge of rock climbing.

Exactly how much knowledge of rock climbing does one need. I am staying on Flamenco and planning a day at Resaca. From aerial pictures the walk along the shore looks do-able, but.........
Thanks

It is not recommended and if you fall the island does not have emergency response infrastructure in place to tend to your needs. Trails that are advertised are considered safe, other areas are not. If you like, call our office 787-742-0115 to make an appointment to stop by for directions to safe hiking areas. Thanks.
