Where to rent scuba gear ?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hello,

I am planning to visit culebra in december and I'm looking for places that rent scuba gear.

In the past, I have rented locally on the island (by the fuel dock) without any issues.

But it seems that place is no longer operational, or, going out of business ?
I tried calling the numbers I found, but its either disconnected, or no answer.

The other 2 places in the island seem to only do excusrions (using their boats and gear), but dont actually rent just the equipment.

I tried calling a few other places in Fajardo, but it seems they also only do their own guided excursions and no gear rental.

Does anybody know for sure where scuba equipment can be rented ?

I didnt think it would be this hard to find scuba equipment rental places.

Thanks in advance for any help with this!

Is Mini Mas the place you tried to rent gear? Next to Susie's and down from Milka? I rented a tank from them last summer.

Hi Vicki,

I believe Mini Mas is the place I rented a few year ago when I was there last.
But, I heard they might be out of business, or being evicted. I'm still trying to verify this.

Thanks!

Are you taking the ferry over? If so you might be able to rent gear on the big island and bring it with you. Perhaps Culebra Dive Shop on the ferry dock could do fills for you while you are there. If you are flying bringing a tank over would not be an option. We always bring all our own gear but tanks and weights. We dive with Taz Hamrick with Aquatic Adventures. We have been diving for 35 years and love it as much, if not more now, than when we first started. Have a great trip!!

We will be arriving via private boat, and will be diving around the island on the same boat.

I havent been able to find accurate info regarding the one place that I rented gear from before, so I'm starting to research other places on the main island where we might be able to rent from and bring with us to Culebra.

If anybody has current info on a local place in Culebra to rent gear (without having to purchase a guided tour or excursion), please let me know.

Thanks for the help!

I just called Lourdes at MiniMas to confirm that they still are open and renting SCUBA gear. 787-742-3371

They close during lunch hour. 8 AM-4 PM otherwise.

hillman,

Thank you.
That's good to hear.

I will try to give them a call during their business hours.

If they have everything we need, that would be ideal!
Even better if I can reserve the gear to make sure we are set.

Thanks!

Its' very expensive to rent. Its cheaper to buy your gear at Fajardo Walmart.

Francis,

Thank you for your suggestion.

I am asking about SCUBA gear (tanks, BC/Regulator, etc...)...not just snorkeling gear.

I think I will end up renting from local shops on the main island and bringing with on the boat.

Thanks!
