1. I would suggest a double - if one of you gets tired, it's waaaay easier to paddle the other person on the same boat than towing another kayak (been there) - but you guys know each other for a while and know your strengths, so if you are a match in terms of paddling, go for 2 definitely more independence .. then again, the added waterline and 2 paddlers you will have a wider range!
2. really depends where you want to go - your strength. talk to your rental outfit
3. heve them drop the kayaks off ;)
4. better get that info straight from the horse's mouth, or rent a place that has kayaks as well!
