Lodging??? PLEASE HELP!
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Your assistance would be very much appreciated! I am looking for a place to stay in Culebra in August. However, once I think I have found a place that looks perfect, I start reading the reviews and am turned off. I work for a large hotel chain and know very well that not everyone is going to have the same opinion about a place! It’s wonderful for some and horrible for others… With that being said, I need some trusted advice on where to stay. I don’t know too much about Culebra but think I have read just about everything there is to read on the web. My husband and I are looking to spend less than $140 per night. Should we be in Dewey or within walking distance? Or maybe neither if we have a car? We plan to rent a car for a few days but would prefer not to for the whole time. Most important to me is that it is very clean and comfortable! A good view would be nice as well. We don’t mind if it’s a hotel, condo or villa. Thank you in advance for y’alls help!! We are so excited to experience Culebra and get away from it all for a week.

Places I am considering so far: Other suggestions are welcomed!!!
Green Villas Seastar
Casa Nova
Birdhouse
Casa De Palmeras
Harbor View Villas
Costa Bonita Apartment Complex

Costa Bonita is not recommended (do a search here for info rather than having it explained again (the topic brings out the worst in some of us - LOL)).

Green Villas would be nice; nice location, sort of out of town, could walk to town if you feel ambitious and want a nice, long stroll; could walk to Club Seabourne and Bahia Marina and Punto Soldado; take the car in either direction if you're feeling lazy. Great view.

I can't find any info about Casa Nova.

Birdhouse is nice; might want to look into Casa Pueblo next door (one of our favorite ever rentals; in town - within walking distance to grocery stores, water, restaurants, etc.) Depending on the trees, you may have a slice view of the bay.

Casa De Palmeras is in a residential neighborhood (mine) and can be quite noisy. If you have a/c, shouldn't be a problem. Also in that 'hood is Casa Nueva which is very nice. Both have great views.

Harbor View is rustic but very Culebra. Great view. Walking distance to Melones Beach (on the rocky side); can stroll into town as well.

Hope this helps!

Happy Diving!
Debbie

Casa del Sol is available in August. Rental for two people, two bedrooms (other two bedrooms closed) is $840 + PR room tax. for seven nights. Recommend vehicle rental because house is not on publico route from town to Flamenco beach. House info at www.homeaway.com/101515.

Thank y'all so much for your feedback! I've emailed about Casa del Sol and am excited about this option. Unfortunately, Casa Puelbo is not available during my stay - darn. Now if only I can convince my husband that it's worth the extra $200 to stay at Casa del Sol instead of Green Villas - he's really liking that it's waterfront (sort of) and comes with bikes and a sea kayak. Whatever we decide I'm sure will be wonderful! Thank you, again!

Avoid green villas sea star!!!!! I'm no rookie when it comes to Puerto Rico or any of the off islands. I have family here(born and raised) I have stay in many places. This one was the most challenging. The front door has a major gap allowing insects and Mosquitos inside at night! se real windows including in the bathroom. It's a mosquito party at night! Paying 100$ no one should be up all night we didn't get any decent sleep. Especially with the specific mosquito that is plaguing the carribean it was no joke. Don't waste your money. You try to fight it with your credit card company your assed out cause of the no refund policy. I learned that one the hard way. I donated 100$ on the second night since we left the early afternoon(1130am) it ruined our cuelbra trip. The property manger was nice but there was nothing she could do. I'm sure gabby is on the main island in San juan(where most property owners stay). Good luck to all of you! Don't let it discourage you from going to cuelbra!!! Do your homework and pay the second night in person the day you check in!

:)
