As of today we have the hardware installed on the cell tower above the airport and the WiFi 802.11 wireless signal is being beemed over Culebra. If you have a view of the tower and would like to be signed on during our test period contact me at 787-742-0223. I will be here until Wed. the 16th. If you are coming to the island bring your laptop and wireless card.

Do you have tried coverage? In other words, taken a car/boat around Culebra with a wireless card?

Where does it work and where not?

I would like to know whether Dakiti is covered. 802.11 (which I assume you have) might not reach that far.

A lot of interested boaters awaiting your response :)

Enjoy Culebra!

Enjoy Culebra!

Update! We have the strongest 802.11 on the market beaming over the island. If you have a wireless card already or your computer has the ability to receive a wireless signal then you are good to go. There's a catch! You must have line of sight to the cell tower above the airport. I've been able to get a signal all the way out near seaborne. I sat at dingy dock tonight surfing. If you do not have line of site then you will have to wait for repeaters to be installed. The other catch is the signal will not go through concrete and the metal windows. It slows down through wood as well. We have Long Range Multi-Client Bridges to solve that problem. I installed two today. Both were able to get 10Mbps speeds. It was awesome! These boxes receive the wireless signal and then allow it to be sent to your computer through a network cable into your eithernet card. The small antenna on the back can be unscrewed and a outdoor antenna can be mounted on the roof to get the signal. I'm going to try a 10 foot cable and antenna tomorrow. I will let you know how it works. The longer the cable the more bandwidth lost.
At the moment I can give you a password to get on-line. In a week or two you will see a billing page when you log onto your browser. Lay your credit card down and choose daily or monthy. We will have a lower rate for a 6 month committment. We are still trying to decide on the price. The set-up has not been cheap and we will at least need to cover cost. We are limited to 80-100 customers at the moment. I hope this answers some of your questions. I'm going to go drive around and see what I can get for signals tonight.

well al I can say is, 'have card will travel' :)

what happens, when you have 80-100 customers?

with the speed,
with the next 80-100 ;(

in other words what percentage of the 10M is lost per user?

Do you have bandwidth limitations, so one music downloading (or up) fanatic can't ruin the whole thing for everyone?

thanks for the updates - keep them coming!

The test are complete and the speeds are between DSL and Broadband. It all depends on your equipment. The only thing left for us to do is get our credit card billing page done. If you want your property evaluated for the type of equipment you will need give me a call. 787-435-6746 Each house might need different equipment. Some may need an indoor bridge others an outdoor bridge and wire run. It all depends on where you are in relation to the cell tower above the airport. We can install you now and you can begin using the service free until our billing page is done. Call me!
