Things to do
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hey there folks,

My group my friends and I are considering a vacation on Culebra later in the year. My girlfriend and I have been there before and loved it. Here's where the question comes... We have 1 friend who doesn't know how to swim and has a little fear of the water. Because of this life-long phobia, he's not the biggest fan of sand, water, beaches, etc. Can anyone give advice on other things to do while there? My girlfriend and I are beach fanatics so we didn't do a whole lot else during the day while there.

Thanks a ton,
Jim

Hmm, that's a tricky one. He is traveling to a tiny island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and doesn't care for water. He could a bike ride around sight seeing . Hike to the Culebrita lighthouse. Paint pictures. Take harp lessons from a resident expert. Visit the museum. Visit the local watering holes. Go fishing. Collect shells. Hike to Brava and Resaca.

My husband, daughter and I spent a week on Culebra last year, and are coming back in just over a week (can't wait). I don't enjoy swimming or snorkeling, but had a blast watching my husband and daughter snorkel and body-surf while I relaxed on various beaches and worked on my tan. We biked and hiked, and in my opinion there's plenty to do if you enjoy the outdoors and beautiful scenery in beautiful weather. There are new species of birds (besides the feral chickens) to see, interesting folks to meet at the various shops and watering holes, and it's a great opportunity to relax and get away from it all.

Thanks for all your advice! Personally I think he'll be fine exploring the island and hiking and such, but I'd hate to get him down there and he be unhappy.

Also, can anyone recommend a place to stay for 4? The last time we were there the condos/hotels weren't built yet. We like bohemian, but also like upscale.

Thanks!

-Jim

Going to an island which is by definition surrounded by water is not a great idea if you are water adverse.

And what, pray tell, is "bohemian?" Are you hinting that a "bohemian" is amenable to staying in new condos?

This is a very weird post on several levels.

I do hope your friend enjoys the ferry ride to Culebra.

leave him behind. worrying about his comfort will ruin the trip for you.
why would you take him on a water oriented vacation?
