Just back from Culebra!!

My husband and I just returned from Culebra and had the most amazing, relaxing time. We absolutely loved it and were sad to leave.

We rented a house/villa from Jim Galasso at Culebra Island Realty. Dealing with him was very easy and he was very thorough and professional. We rented Casa Marbella, and I cannot believe that there is anyplace on the island with better views. We woke every morning looking out at Zoni Beach, Culebrita and Cayo Norte. We have traveled extensively throughout the Caribbean, and this is right up there at the top of the list as the best. (the info is on this site under shelter)

We rented our jeep from Jerry's Jeeps, who was also very easy to work with and a wealth of information and if you rent longer than a week you get a break on the price ($45-$50/day). He is directly accross the street from the airport.

OK, Mamacita's....WE LOVED IT!! We ate there for lunch and twice for dinner, and had drinks at the bar. We always had good service and the staff was friendly. Especially the waitress we had for dinner our last night there (thursday, april 29th). she was a delight and as nice as could be. what a great way to end a great vacation.

El Bately rocks for the most awesomest (yes, my word) hamburger on the planet!

All the beaches are great, nothing bad to say about any of them: Zoni Beach, Flamenco, Carlos Rasario (bring your snorkling gear!)-we saw two stingrays right near shore- you can't go wrong anywhere.

You must go to Culebrita. We rented a water taxi to take us: Ocean View water taxi which also seems to go under the name "Culebra Island Tours" that picks you up and drops you off at Mamacita's. $40 RT pp.

DON'T go to Culebra if you are looking for all the ammenities of the big resorts and a jumping nightlife. DO go if you are looking for quiet, relaxation and slow island life (which is how we should live everyday). The people there are kind and helpful and I hesitated to tell anyone about it (want to keep it all to ourselves..lol), but if you are here, you know about it already.

The motto of the island seems to be, "Open some days, closed on others", you gotta love it....
