bring car to the island

hi there, i will be on the island in a week and our car rental agency is telling us that if we take the car to the island the insurance won't cover this. Does anyone recommend an agency that does cover this and also if it is a good idea to have a car on the island. thank you much....kim

Hi. Just rent one on the island. I'm not sure if you know that the "Cargo Ferry" only operates during the week and not on the weekends. And, a bit hard to make reservations via phone; and, it is usually full with construction and provisions vehicles.

Definitely you will need a car in culebra if you want to go outside Flamenco beach. Although there is public transportation the service is not too good.

HI KIM,

ANY RENTALS IN THE BIG ISLAND ALLOW PEOPLE TO BRING CARS TO CULEBRA OR EITHER VIEQUES. YOU SHOULD HAVE TO RENT IT HERE. AT CULEBRA THERE IS A LOT OF CHOICES, LIKE JEEPS, SCOOTERS, BICYCLES; ITS UP TO YOU.

Hi...

I was in culebra for a week in Jan-Feb...and we rented from avis in san juan and just drove it on the cargo ferry and had no problems at all...just be careful puerto ricans drive a little differently than americans so be careful...

Sounds like a hassle to bring a car. Just rent one on the island, or use the taxi. The service we got there was great. Willy was great! (taxi/jeep rental guy)
