A group of friends (10 total) and I will be in PR from July 24-29. I know there is a holiday the 25th, what would be the best date for us to visit Culebra on a one day trip? Would Monday the 28th work? I've read the posts about getting ferry tickets and I am guessing ten ticks would be a hassle, any tips? I read about calling ahead, is there a limit as to the number of tickets? For some reason I have a bad feeling we will not get to go, but in case that falls apart, any suggestions? Thanks!! I am super hyped to be in PR.

Hola! That's going to be a festive weekend. Friday, July 25 is El Dia de la Constitucion and Saturday, July 26 is Jose Celso Barbosa Day. Being the last of the summer holidays when everyone is off from work, everyone is going to hit the beaches. It's probably going to be as hectic as the July 4 weekend. Port Authority did have more ferries on the schedule and I did read in the PR press that they were going to get everyone back to the mainland but, I bet the masses were big. You can definitely try to get tickets as early as possible or try and have someone purchase them for you in advance. Try calling, although I have not read (lately) on the forum if anyone has had luck getting through and purchasing tickets:
Numbers for Fajardo Port Authority: 787- 801-0250 and 0251, Ext. 221, 222, 230, 234, 787-860-8618, 787-863-0852 and 0705. Try all of them because they are not always very good about answering the phone. Call between 8 AM-11 AM and 1-3PM.
I have read that you can go to Culebra as a day trip via catamaran. About 35-40 minute trip. Look for some sailing companies on Trip Advisor or other search engine (PR Tourism Board). Also try google puerto rico and search there.
Backup plan would be very good, there's so much to do in Fajardo. There you can do kayaking, go to the beach at Las Croabas, ecotours, Las Cabezas de San Juan, El Conquistador Resort. The food is wonderful, fresh great seafood. Arepas are wonderful.
Do your homework before you arrive. Let us know how it goes. Happy travels! J

Here's the name of a company that woffers day trips (via power catamaran) to Culebra, as well as a variety of other trips, some by sail cat: East Island Excursions 877-WE-R-4-FUN
I have their brochure from a previous trip, just checked out their webstie & the the info above is still current. They do have a good reputation.

Flying is another option, and you'll find info on that in other threads on this site.

Good luck, & have fun! We're arriving the day you're leaving, so I'll wave as our planes pass each other.

Hola! I did read good comments about East Island Excursions on Trip Advisor. Remember, when going on an excursion with these companies, the group might be big, there may be children on board and sometimes you may be rushed. You may want to spend more time at certain places and your guide has just announced that it's time to leave. Adults not always look after their children and let them run about, this may bother some passengers.

Erin Go Bragh Charters is another outfit for 28 passengers, good comments (but look it up yourself, too) leaves from Fajardo: 787-860-4401/ 409-2511.

East Island Excursions has two vessels, a 65' Power Catamaran for 50 passengers and a 45' for 28' passengers. Use the numbers Chuck gave or their local #'s are 787-860-3434/ 409-2485.

Others are: Caribbean School of Aquatics: 787-728-6606/ 383-5700
Baby Bay Cruisers Lagoon: 787-655-2739/ 435- 9167
Bare Foot IV: 787-791-6195/ 726-5752
Bebe (Caribbean Sailing School): 787-502-7201/ 885-3476
Black Dog (Sunset Snuba): 787-354-0999
Catamaran Spread Eagle II: 787-887-8821
Do your search on feedback about these and there are more. Happy travels! J
