First, Culebra doesn't have to "compete" with DR, St Thomas, Cancun and Disney. Those places already exist and offer an experience that has nothing to do with Culebra. Since when did "progress in tourism" become the goal for Culebra?

Culebra is as Culebra does and that's okay.

My kids, for example, love Culebra despite it's "service warts". And you know what, I am pretty thrilled that they understand that not everyplace in the world needs to be open for 24 hours a day or strive to meet some sort of customer satisfaction standard. The PEOPLE on Culebra seem pretty happy for the most part and I'm not quite sure how folks imposing their standards on them are going to make them so much happier.

Maybe (I don't know for sure this is purely speculation) the guy at El Patio who is so "unpleasant" (I have never found him to be that way but that is a different topic) is hoping some of the tourists that have invaded and changed his home island would choose to spend their dollars elsewhere. Maybe he'd be glad to see the lady (not you) who was complaining to him the last time I was there about the lack of wine selection head off to some island that can meet her snotty needs.

Jeannie, or supergarcia3 ... this post isn't sent to you in anger or hate or any negative emotion at all. Love and peace indeed ... that is something we all aspire to and hope to bring to the world. But as I said, the goal is not for establishments in Culebra to provide some sort of service that meets yours standards.

The real wake up call is for people to stop trying to turn Culebra into the Dominican Republic or St Johns. Because once the charm of Culebra is gone, we can never get it back. And part of that charm (for me at least) is the reminder that sometimes in life we can't get what we want when we want it and we ought to remember that the world doesn't revolve around us. I mean that in a philosophical sense, not a literal "attack" on anybody and their world view on how things should work.

I am curious about one thing. You speak of Culebra as "our island" yet say you'll "return their for vacation" ... and also imply you own a restaurant. Do you live and own a business on Culebra or have just vacationed there? If not, where is your restaurant? I'd like to visit and say hello ... and take advantage of your good food and great service!
