I am planning to fly to Culebra and was wondering if it is wiser to book a rental in advance or if I should wait to see and negocite the car?

I would definitely rent a car in advance. There will be little negotiation going on, the fees are pretty much set. Try Carlos Jeeps or Jerry's Jeeps.

I've picked up the last reserved jeep, while walk-ups were turned away. I only felt a little guilty. Limited supply and all.

Try Jerry's jeep. Avoid Carlos jeep. If you check with the chief of police on the island, you will see they have a history of mechanical problems.

Any rental but Carlos Jeep

Lots of people seem to like and recommend Jerry's. I haven't had the pleasure myself, but there's got to be a better reason to recommend them other than the fact that they are not... Carlos Jeep?

I've used Carlos many times over the past few years and have always had a good experience. The vehicles are brand new and don't break down - that's one of reasons why I like them, in addition to good service.

Either Carlos or Jerry is a fine choice - depends on your preference.

My first trip I used Carlos with no problems, everyone who worked there was very nice. Every trip since, about once a year for the last 5 years, I've used Jerry, he's a little cheaper and his pre-rental talk and map are worth the price alone. Remember, It's NOT a Heep, It's a Jerry's Jeep!!!

my impression is the few companies are very similar and competitive in price and service. any comment I have made on this or other threads is not necessarily an endorsement of one over another.

I dont think its fair and right for Deprez to make such statements. Has he ever had pbs with Carlos? No. So the moderator should delete this guys posting.

Let's face it...the squeaky wheel always gets the grease and in this case it is Mr. Perez's comments. Carlos has rented to thousands of people since he started his business. I have rented from him since the beginning. I have always been, happy, satisfied and confronted with cheerful, helpful people. My latest transaction resulted in a mistake on my part with my dates for rental. I spoke with Lynette who went out of her way to make sure everything was changed to the correct date. It is always important to understand that for every single complaint there are more than 500 people who are happy...unfortunately the happy people don't always let their thoughts be known. Mr. Perez, we all understand your unhappiness, but for the better of your health (and our ears) it is time to move on.

I think that this is why Michael keeps these posts on the board... When an obvious evil-intent slander attack is posted, lots of people start defending the victim and that turns into the best publicity any business could hope for!

Plus, it's kind of amusing and it spices up the board for awhile.

Speaking of amusing threads... I'm still wondering whatever happened to the guy who was asking about laws regarding disposing a body in Culebra! LOL! That was a classic.

I have no idea who he is, and I hope I never meet him after all the jokes I've made at his expense! Unless he has a sense of humor, of course.

Are you implying that I was in prison? You have no proof of that.

No proof. But that shifty look...I had to wonder; were you looking for your kids to get to the cart from that other store or...well!
And the way you kept whispering, Sergio, do you know him? I didn't even know YOU! I figured you'd had too much sun (that happens...I believe it has even happened to me) or you were talking about someone who rented boats....until...NOW!
No worries. This sort of thing is normalo here. We can't wait until you come back...I mean I, not we! Really! Oops!

(I thought about deleting this...but, hey, it's the full moon and the most fun I've had in the last 10 minutes since getting home from celebrating a birthday at the pizza place...I'm going for it!)

I've used a fake name (and number) ever since my escape from prison a few years ago. I still remain the ONLY inmate who has ever escaped from a "Supermax" maximum security prison, in solitary confinement with no windows, no doors, chained upside down to the wall, blindfolded, drugged into an induced coma, and surrounded by no less than eight vicious police dogs.

An escape has never happened before. And it will likely never happen again because they have significantly upped the number of guard dogs.

I've got to admit, I'm kinda proud.

I'm proud of you as well. But, Mort, you can lose the blindfold and start walking on your feet now...
