What type of reservations do you usually need and do you need to have prior training for diving ?

I'll only be there for one day and flying in, I remember reading something before about that you can't dive then fly same day, though that might be talking about deeper diving as well as commerical air travel which flies much higher than the flight to Culebra would be ?

Walter at Culebra Divers, and Taz at Aquatic Adventures both do "resort courses," a half day introduction to scuba diving. Walter's trips for this purpose are in the afternoon. The flying/diving rule is for pressurized jets, and the rule is no flying within 24 hours of diving no matter how deep you go (unless you are an advanced diver and you have a computer that calculates saturation for you). You would be fine doing a resort course (only goes to 25-30 feet) and then flying on one of the little planes back to San Juan. I doubt that you would have time to do the resort course, then catch your 5pm flight, but check with Walter if you're serious.

Happy Diving!
Debbie
