Renting A Golf Cart? Good idea?

Just wondering, as we are looking at renting one the rugged golf carts from Jerry since he is all out of beaters for the time we are going (17-22 Feb 2011) if anyone has rented a golf cart before and what the deal is with them.

Can they handle the island rough roads?
Are they gas/electric? How do you refuel or pay for them?
How useful are they for getting from downtown all the way up to the Flamenco and then around to the other beaches?
Is it simply easier to spend $10 on a taxi per day? Let me know ASAP as I need to reserve something immediately.

Thanks ALL!

I see them traveling all over and up the Zoni hills. They are gas powered hence you refill at the gas station. I would not suggest taxiing around.

I did not know Jerry had golfcarts. I know Carlos does. We were on Culebra in July during monsoon weather and I felt so sorry for those I saw on the golfcarts. Even with the clear curtains, they were drenched. You could also check with Dick and Kathy about VW Thing. Course if it was raining, you would get wet in them as well. At this late a date, your probably need to get whatever you can.
