we are a family of 5 looking to go to culebra prior to getting on our cruise ship to celebrate our children's graduation from college. we can leave early sunday morning from san juan, but want to be back at the port around 4 or 5 p. we also need very reliable transportation to allow us to get to our ship. any suggestions?

I would advise against this idea. You could fly to Culebra in the morning and return later that evening (try Vieques Air Link, $90/pp/RT) however, you'd be so rushed it wouldn't be worth the trip. Do not attempt to drive to Fajardo to catch the ferry. By the time you get there, you'd have to turn around and come back. If you could at least stay overnight, it MAY be worth it, but not for a few hours. Better to save the Culebra trip for next year.

If you do decide to do it, definitely fly Vieques Airlink or charter a plane from Isla Grande. (Charter may be cheaper??) The benefit of Isla Grandse is that it is a short cab ride to your ship.
