This site is an amazing reference for a newbie to Culebra, such as myself.

I was wondering what the weather in early July is like? Is this as good a time as any to go, or am I better off waiting until the end of Hurricane season??

July is very hot, not as hot as August though.
In July, Culebra is visited by many locals from the big island, and if you like to merge into a crowd... it is the month to visit.
The weather cannot be predicted, not for more that 12 hours ( my opinion ),
and even July is not a month where storms have been very active, there is always that possibility.

Capt. Guzman,

Thank you very much for your reply! Crowds are exactly what we are trying to avoid, so it seems as if July is not a good time. Do the crowds die down in August? I'm going for the first time, so I want to experience the best of the island. While I was trying to go in either July or August, I am willing to hold off until October or November, if you think I would have a better experience then?

Is August too hot?? As for the Hurricanes, I will likely purchase travel insurance, so I would monitor the situation closely prior to leaving.

Either way, I AM going to visit Culebra, it's just a matter of WHEN. I can't afford much, so I would be devestated if I went and it was crowded or wouldn't be able to enjoy it. The small, secluded, quiet island charm is what is attracting me.

We went in mid-August last year and LOVED how there were no crowds! There were still people at Flamenco on the weekend, but during the week it was great! One downside, a couple places were closed because it was the slow season, but it didn't cause a problem!

It was hot, but nothing that's a problem! We didn't have AC in the house we rented, and with the trade winds, it was VERY comfortable! I have also heard that November is a great time to go, because of the lack of crowds! I know how you feel about looking for the perfect time to go your first time there! August was our first trip and we really did love it! We got to meet a lot of locals and were told that during summer (weekends) they didn't go out as much because of the crowds. Now we are trying to plan the perfect time to go again--the hard part is picking just one time!

I'm sure you will love it whenever you go!

Enjoy!
Sue
