I just returned after camping 3 weeks with others from ME. We felt there ws no need to shop Fajardo this year. We shopped Culebra to support the Culebran economy. Superette Mayra had all foods (fresh, canned, & boxed) we could eat at similar or below ME costs. Example, an 'imported' fresh pear cost $.60 each. Tues. and Friday are fresh fruit/veg. delivery days at Superett Mayra; timing is important. We found 10:30 - 11 am to be a good time to find the coolers freshly stocked. I was told by an envirnomental volunteer near Resaca Beach that Puerto Rico grows many food products. We purchased at Mayra: pineapple, large avacados, bananas, tomatoes, peppers, coffee, grapefruit, a variety of cilantro, carrots, huge cabbages, limes, some local roots & huge tangarines. A free-standing fruit/veg van near the airport comes on alternating Thurs. & Fri.; not this week. They had extensive, inexpensive produce. We bought beans, rice, chicken/shark/pork, & fresh fruit smoothies at kiosks in campground. We packed in oatmeal, powdered milk, dried fruits & nuts, dry refried beans and gormet coffee to perk. We also ate at Dewey restaurants occasionally. To echo M., Enjoy Culebra!
