Thanks for the comments and information. I've done some checking and it appears that scooters are ~ $42/day, the VW Thing is $40/day, and a Suzuki Samurai is $45/day, so cost is basically the same across the board. (This seems kind of crazy/odd to me. I suspect that scooters would be the first choice of more visitor's if the cost were a little lower, but.....)
It also doesn't sound like there's any advantage to the scooters either, especially if we don't mind walking/hiking for a short ways after reaching the end of the road in some remote places. I guess now it just comes down to personal enjoyment and comfort in choosing between the two vehicles, the Thing or the Samurai. Any strong reasons to go one way or the other?
