As a non-white American who appreciates EVERYTHING about travelling outside my comfy little home area, I find all of your posts extremely offensive and not at all helpful to any users of this site. While you may see yourself as open-minded, your comments about your entire trip to Puerto Rico are unnecessarily hurtful, and not at all constructive. I am often horrified and embarrassed by some of the Americans I encounter when I travel outside the continental US, who are often rude, self-important and completely clueless about the charms of other cultures and places with rich history, and fail to see some of the effects of a less-than-stellar economy or strong industry as just part of the local culture, and thus part of the adventure and overall picture of visiting their country (or in this case, territory). However, I am completely appalled by your horrific comments about Puerto Rico. It's true, not all of the hotels are fancy 5-star resorts you can get for pennies. No one said PR was cheap, particularly during this, the high season. You may have experienced incidences where you were "targeted" as a non-local and charged more for certain services. Welcome to life, welcome to the rest of the world. This stuff happens almost everywhere you travel, it's just how it works. In my experience, if you try to learn a bit of the local language, you are treated so much better, even though they know you are a foreigner. They just appreciate visitors who at least show some respect for their culture and the world they live in. Because really, unless you are going to a Club Med or some place where you pay thousands and thousands of dollars, what travellers seek is an experience, and adventure. If what you seek is luxury, you came to the wrong place. Chalk it up to that, a vacation that did not meet your expectations, and please stop trashing Puerto Rico and Culebra.
