Thanks Teresa...that is great news about the navy transferring the land to the refuge. I really like the idea of trails in that area. I guess that the UXO out on the peninsula is a mixed blessing...dangerous and toxic but it keeps people out.

Since the buildings near the helipad appear to have been an observation post for the admirals and such to watch the assaults on Flamenco Beach I would think that the worst of the contamination would be asbestos and, perhaps some petrochems....relatively easy to clean up unlike UXO.

I wonder if some of the buildings could be salvaged and used as some sort of eco-toursim lodging or to house exhibits to teach visitors about the issues wild Culebra faces. I'm sure that there are plenty of visitors (myself included) that would gladly pay a couple of bucks to go up there and enjoy the view legally and learn more about the refuge.

Again, I salute you for your efforts and I look forward to using those triails someday when I'm lucky enough to returen to Culebra.
