We just came back from camping as well: I definitely recommend a campstove. You can buy propane cannisters at the main grocery story, or if you have one of those universal stoves, fill a cannister with normal gas.
The stands are great for lunch. Fried chicken, rice and beans, tostones, chicken on a stick. You'll find something you like.
Dinner in town makes sense, but I would echo others that getting a ride back and forth is not always easy. Several of us walked both ways more than once. It's a pretty long walk!
