Local foods might describe criollo style cooking, such as can be found at Tina's or Happy Landings. Dishes I have enjoyed included beans and rice, porkchops with salsa, seafood, plantains, empanada meat pies, mofongo (kind of a plantain hash) and others. Also the sandwiches at the panaderia next to the airport are caribbean in style (superior to U.S., imho).
The grocery stores carry many products found in U.S. groceries, but many of the brands are different than you see in the states.
Bon appetite!
