Good evening,
The ferries are VERY crowded in the summer months (i.e. sold out often & NOT just on weekends). Normally, advance tickets are not sold on the day of, except one our prior.

I'd suggest as early as possible (yes, could eat up a good part of your day) getting to the ferry dock.
