Regarding Luis Pena, I have taken a kayak from the shores of Tamarindo over to the East side of LP. It's about a 15 minute paddle straight over to a sandy beach. LOTS of living reefs and fan corals over there. Tight getting to the sandy beach between the coral heads but you can see them clearly in the day. If the swells are big out of the North I would not recommend it as you will encounter them in the middle of the pssage.
