Hola! Anywhere you go, there will be all kinds of critters. On the island, there are roaches, red ants, mosquitoes and other insects that will bite or sting you. They nest in certain places or may be everywhere depending on the season. Mosquitoes are usually abundant in the summer months when it's hot and humid. Take bug spray if you will be on the island during these months. If you go hiking, be careful of red ant hills, these bite hard. There are also a smaller variety of ants, aballardes, these bite extremely hard and the bite is painful. Be careful where you walk, sit or even leaning against any trees. At some beaches, there are sand flies and smaller ones that bite just as hard. Apply repellent if they bother you. Don't let the bugs keep you from going anywhere or enjoying yourself. There are no infestations and it's not that bad. Happy travels! J
