Actually, no. As MJ indicated they are worse when it's been rainy for a while, and better when it's been dry for a while. I've been there various times of the year, including the winter and have been eaten alive. It all depends on the rains. It should be the same on Antigua. I'm guessing you were there after it had been rainy for a few days straight.
