I think this is just one of those things that divides people in two groups. The carry-ons and the checked baggage. To me, leaving the hassles at home means checking enough clothes that I can guarantee clean underwear every day and a reasonably clean shirt for dinner. Laundry may not be a big deal to you if you don't do it every day at home, but I go on vacation, in part, to get away from that. We have shipped things down before and it works fine, but we have enough in our carry-ons for the first couple days, so if a bag is lost it's not a big deal. We have done carry on only some trips too, not needing to ship anything down. The kids actually need more, not less, than adults, but their clothes are small enough that they could carry on if needed. If there is ketchup involved in a meal, you can usually safely assume that it will be on a small child's clothes in some way, shape or form. It's the snorkel gear, floaties, toys, etc., that ends up taking space. And even with all the phone calls to the airlines, our friends still didn't spend even close to an hour, total, on the phone.

Different strokes for different folks, huh? To me, I couldn't even imagine taking nail polish, a hair dryer or hair spray on Culebra. Clean underwear for every day of my trip, however, is big for me. Sorry, you just can't convince me otherwise.

I was just trying to point out what would be involved if luggage is lost, so the original poster would be aware. I had not intention of starting a giant debate on whether or not to check your bags.

Sue
