Here's some "just in case" info for you, so you are prepared and then hopefully it won't happen to you!! We took friends down with us last year for spring break and one of their suitcases did get lost on the way to San Juan (I believe they flew United---sorry!). It took almost 3 days and repeated phone calls to get that bag to Culebra. At one point the airlines told them that everything was taken care of, yes we found your bag and yes, it is on it's way to you in CHICAGO!! They finally had someone take the passenger ferry over and just look around at the ferry dock for someone willing to claim the bag. He also had another bag that wasn't theirs that he really wanted them to claim, but no luck there!
If you have the misfortune of losing luggage, just remember to keep calling, keep calling, keep calling the airline.
BTW, I second Debbie on the airlines. We have always flown Air Flamenco and they have been wonderful. We have used them out of SJU also, and we actually prefer Isla Grande, it's so quiet and peaceful.
