Mort, until last week I thought Culebra WAS the safest place on earth. I heard about two recent murders on the island from my friend that lives over there, and I couldn't believe it. One I've forgotten who it was and the details, and the other one involved the son of the people that own the Dingy Dock (which is for sale for $2MM). The owners want to go back to the states, but for other reasons besides the murder of their son. So tragic.
This should not deter anyone from going to Culebra. I just never thought that anyone would be murdered there, and there's no way to catch the people that did this. They obviously had a plan of escape thought out well in advance. There's no passenger list for the ferry, or they could have come in by boat or plane too.
I'm still very shocked over this.
