Good on you for wanting to go in the water at night! So many people are fearful of that. I would stick close to Tamarindo, and not try to go too far towards Melones unless and/or until you are especially familiar with your surroundings. You'll need an underwater flashlight and excellent vision. At night, you risk running into reef that you can't see if you're not constantly looking around at your surroundings - bad for you; bad for the reef. At night, your flashlight will catch the beady eyes of all types of shrimp, you might see an octopus out hunting and probably lobsters. Don't go too far towards Luis Pena, as you risk getting out in the channel and getting caught in the current. There was a story once about a guy in a rowboat that wanted to row over to Luis Pena from Tamarindo. He ended up in Fajardo. No kidding!

Happy Diving!
Debbie
