cell phones on the island

We are going to stay a month on Culebra (first visit) and wondered which cell phones work best? I know that Verizon charges roaming charges, so that's out. I was considering the Cingular pay-as-you-go plan. They charge 10 cents a minute to the States, which is where I want to call, but they couldn't assure me that there is coverage on Culebra.
How is the reception, and are there dead spots?
Very excited about our first visit.

I have Verizon's AMERICA'S CHOICE plan, and it doesn't cost me anything to call out of Culebra. No roaming charges.

We have Cingular, and they worked better in Culebra than they do at home in Michigan! There's a Cingular store/business on Hwy #3 before you get to Fajardo.
