Culebra to Yost
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hello! I went on a solo camping trip on Flamenco in early December and loved it so much I'd like to do it again. What an incredible experience and beautiful island! This time though, I'd like to break the trip into a few days in Culebra and a week on Yost Van Dyke. Does anyone know how to get from Culebra to St. Thomas? Will water taxis go there? I seem to recall passing by St. Thomas at a somewhat close distance on my way for a day on Culebrita. Is that an option or are there any other options that anyone knows of?

Oh, and thanks to everyone for the great advice for my first island camping trip. Even as a single woman, I felt as safe as a kitten there. It was sooooo great and everyone was exceptionally kind to me.

There is a charter service that regularly spams this forum. I'm looking into a charter flight from Tortola to Culebra and will report back here.

Matt can fly you anywhere. The runway in the BVI is on Tortola. So you would have to catch another boat to get to YVD.

If you left from Culebra to Culebrita you did not pass St Thomas. It's about 18 miles East of Culebrita.

When looking at a chart they all look so close and it seems like a good idea to hit them all. But getting to all of the little islands is a whole other production. Unless money and time are no object.

Sounds crazy but you're probably better off flying back to San Juan and going on to St. Thomas or better yet Tortola from there. There are multiple options out of San Juan, but remember Jost is the BVI's so bring your passport, even if you ferry over from St. Thomas, you'll be leaving US waters and going to Britain.

Thanks for input. Of course I'm researching this way, way in advance...won't be going until next winter. I may spend the whole time in Yost, but I would hate to miss out on Culebra being so close. It would be nice to catch up with some of the regulars there again too....plus the Mojitos at Mamacita's! I forgot Yost is part of BVI. I'd have to have my passport anyway as I'm Canadian. I take it everywhere with me, eh.

Has anyone done the Bio Bay? Is it worth the money and effort?

OOPS! Complete phonetic spaz here....Jost Van Dyke. Just realized I'd been spelling it as it sounds.

Bio-Bay is certainly worth the money and not too much effort, make sure you go when there is no moon. Not sure I would try and do it as a daytrip, really have to tie it in with a Vieques vacation. Also, Jost is very small. Makes even Culebra, look big and if you're thinking of going over New Year's book now because the island will be packed out for Foxy's New Year bash.

Good evening,
Actually, tho you would need your passport, of course, you are not heading into "Britain." The BVI's are a British Overseas Territory, however they carry their own passport & their immigration laws are not reciprocal with UK residents.
