to rent or not to rent
Culebra, Puerto Rico

A Jeep that is........

We will be staying overnight and my knee is still hurting and we have two DDs (10 & 8 as I mentioned in previous posts).

Can anyone give me some opinions?

Also, how crowded is it now - we'll be there April 4th and I know that most of the Spring Breaks will be over - we're one of the only school systems here in NJ that have it next week!

Gracias!

that's a pick-em, you're only there one night, right? so you won't have time to do much more than Flamenco and/or snorkeling anyway, but IIRC you're up a hill behind the airport at CR and it's not a convenient walk to town (not a bad one just not easy with a sore knee).

if you don't rent, then arrange with a publico operator in advance for a ride home after dinner in town.

if you get a jeep, cruise out to Zoni the following AM if there's time.

if the budget allows, I'd opt for renting, given the short time there and children. nothing sucks more than waiting when time is limited.

shouldn't be too crowded - not a major holiday to my knowledge.

I would rent a vehicle. Take into consideration, you're there for only 1 day, you have 2 young children that at the end of the day spent swimming, snorkeling, hiking in the sun, they're going to be tired, sweaty, hungry and whining and you, too! Don't put any more stress on your knee because you're there to de-stress and have a good time. As far as the crowds go, Spring Break in Puerto Rico will be over, so there will be no locals, maybe some form the US since our Spring Breaks will start to kick in the following weeks. I agree, it shouldn't be too bad. Happy travels! J

On that; can anyone suggest the best places for the following?:

• Vehicle Rental
• Bike rental
• Boat rental (with someone to drive it)

We will be staying with friends on the island over a weekend in mid-june for about 3 days and I'd love to just get some info on the basics to see what our best options are.

Also, Is it true that you can only get to one of the beaches by car and the rest you have to get to by boat??

Thanks!

Zach

* Jerry's Jeeps - 787-742-0587
* Culebra Bike - (787) 742-2209

You can drive to Flamenco, Melones, Tamarindo, Punta Soldado (to name a few). You can hike to Resaca and Brava. You need a boat to get to Tortuga Beach on Culebrita (an outer island).

Happy Diving!
Debbie

You might want to call Dick and rent one of his VW things. He also has bikes for around 17 bucks a day, his Things are 40 bucks a day. The math worked for me to rent a Thing and use my energy for snorkeling.
