May I also suggest that those traveling during hurricane season check out WeatherUnderground.com? Click on Tropical/Hurricane. Dr. Jeff Masters posts a daily blog about the current conditions of the tropics. Currently, the GFDL (see http://www.gfdl.gov/ for an explanation of this organization) model predicts that the tropical wave located east of the Lesser Antilles may develop into a tropical depression arriving in Puerto Rico on Wednesday. Could this change? Absolutely. Should you cancel/change your trip? Depends on how accurate this forecast is. No one can say with any amount of certainty what the weather holds during hurricane season, and especially when a tropical system is threatening. Note that Dr. Masters says "None of the other models buy this solution, and neither do I. Wind shear and dry air will probably combine to keep this wave from developing. Even if the wave does develop, a strong upper-level cold low north of the Bahamas will bring very hostile wind shear to any storm that tries to approach the U.S. East Coast through the Bahamas. The only chance the storm appears to have is if it can stay south of the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Sea." No doubt until this storm passes, it will bring rain to Culebra.
If you've never been to the Caribbean, I encourage you not to take it lightly. I, on the other hand, am scheduled to arrive in PR on Thursday, and I'm not going to let it hamper my trip based on WeatherUnderground's information. I'll be happy to sit on the porch and read a book in the rain. If I really felt like it was going to develop into a serious tropical storm, I would consider canceling. Hope this helps.
