Jose, as you said, it depends on the speed, not necessarily the power of the boat. I personally have seen people water-ski behind sailboats - albeit very fast ones :)

For your regular use, a 25hp engine and an inflatable is more than sufficient for a water start (which is were you need the most power).

I pretty much depends on the overall weight and drag of the boat and skier cmbined. The more efficient the boat, the less power you need. Granted, in PR people tend to have heavier boats, which are overpowered.

For a novice I would actually recommend a boat that does not have too much hp. It will get you out of the water a little gentler, albeit slower ..

just my 2c

not even mentioning that I think water skiing as well as jet skis should be banned :) - they are only fun if you are doing it, but everything else but enjoyable for the rest who want to enjoy Culebra's most valuable resource!
