Surfing trips from Culebra

I am heading to Culebra for the first time in December. My family's favorite place to vacation has been St. John, but we could not get flights in to St. Thomas. We found Culebra somehow and planned a vacation. I am looking to go surfing for a day in Puerto Rico, but am not sure of the best way to go about this. Also, is there any nightlife on the island? We were told the only thing to do after 9pm is turtle watching.
