I'll be traveling for the first time to PR next week, the 23-27th and will be staying in Dorado, which from what I've heard is a nice, quite and safe area.
I was definatly hoping to try to visit Culebra for a day though I need some advice how to best go about as the more I read, the more questions I have.
Its my understanding the ferry only leaves at 9am and you've got to get in line several hours in advance ? So that would basically mean leaving the hotel at 5am to get to the ferry at 7am to get in line ? Then the ferry is 2 hours ? So by the time I get on the island, I'd practically have to turn around to come back so I think the idea is out.
So I've been reading about flying. I checked flights from the International Airpot and they all seem to be only the afternoon.
Theres another airport nearby though correct ? This would run in the $50 each way price range from what I've read.
Flying from Farajdo woudl be $50 round trip though ? It seems a fairly short drive to Farajdo from San Juan though I read on one site that a taxi from the airport would take 2 hours or 3 hours in traffic and cost $65 ??
If so then theres no advantage to that method. Is that a realistic travel time ?
How do the flights on demand work ? Do you have to wait until theres enough people to fill the flight before they leave ? Or can you simply show up, pay your money and they leave when you want ?
Assuming I can make it to the island, what would everyone suggest for transportation ? I'd like to do some snorkling but the beaches are several miles away.
Will it be easy to get a publico or other transportation or should I rent a jeep, scooter etc ?
I was looking quite forward to seeing the island though I'm feeling a bit worried it might not be practical to do in one day.
Is there any good snorkling off Fajardo I might be able to enjoy instead as that would be much easier provided I can't manage a flight/ferry ?
Your advice would be much appreciated.
