The easiest way from SJU to Isla Grande is to grab a cab. About 15 minutes, about 15 bucks.
The two beaches you should check out are Resaca and Brava ... look on the forum at the recent thread titled with these beaches for directions. (You must hike to them) Other good ones are Carlos Rosario (hike from the Flamenco parking lot but stay on the trail) and Zoni (it will usually be secluded all the way to the end. Don't miss out on Flamenco Beach, although popular it is still pretty darn nice. A water taxi could take you to Culebrita too.
