Okay, everyone. I think we realize that different folks have different views on the subject of acceptable beach behavior.
Julia, I've known MJ for a long time, and she has never insulted anyone. She calls Culebra home and is very well qualified to advise people on making the most of their time there. Culebra works best if you let the rhythms of the tropics and the novel opportunities that arise each day guide you. For many people, letting go enough to do this is too nerve-wracking. Many other vacation destinations are better equipped to better serve folks in this category. MJ sensed this and offered it as a possible way for you to enjoy yourself more. I know her and she is doing it in the spirit of helpfulness.
Culebra is what it is, and that fact is part of its charm. Worrying about the details is not the way to enjoy such a laid back place. For many, a tropical rain on a porch roof, while sipping coffee or a cocktail underneath, is easily as beautiful as a blistering sunburn day on the beach. Likewise, Flamenco beach is not the only beach on Culebra. If the kids are too rowdy, head over to Zoni. Also, a realization that different people react differently to kids' rowdyness than we do is important when trying to be helpful on a forum. If none of this makes sense, then I'd say re-read MJ's posts for alternate suggestions, where you can control things better. I hope I get through to you - you'll love the island more when you go with its strengths, rather than fighting them. It's worth trying.
