I do not know to whom MONTE is referring to as locals... definitely not to the spanish speaking US citizens of Culebra/Vieques or main island. Maybe to some LOCAL business people either spanish or english speaking citizens, who may be interested in money more than life.
Puertorricans, value life more than money, and I feel insulted by the generalization of this ingnorant, racist.
If this was not his intention, he should offer explanation, and or apologiies.
It is true that the waters in the ENTRANCE to Culebrita, have sometimes strong currents, and also it is an area where many sharks have been seen by divers, and fishermen.
But to say that LOCALS will suggest or recommend tourists to visit that area on kayaks on behalf of money, is totally irresponsible. More over, I do not know of a spanish speaking business person, that rents kayaks, in Culebra.
My participation in this forum is honest, without economical interest, and I provide it to the best of my knowledge, since I have been boating the Culebra area for more than 21 years, and I could not stay silent before MONTE's statement.
Sincerely ,
Capt. J.Guzman
