Car rental insurance

Hello

I am going to Puerto Rice this christmas and i want to rent a car on the main island as well as on Culebra.

I am not sure how much insurance i will need to be well covered in case of accidents, theft, break in and so on.

Does anyone have experience with how much insurance is included in the rental price and what i need/should buy extra.

Ask your insurance company what they offer. Mine offers a rider on my policy that covers me while I rent a car, and I can have the rider put on and taken off as I need it. DO NOT buy insurance from the rental car companies, it is not worth it. The rider doesn't cost much -- when I kept it on my policy for 6 months because I was renting vehicles frequently, it cost $30 for the 6 months. I double-checked when we went to Culebra and they said I was still covered in PR.

Coverage may depend on country of origin. Our Canadian auto insurance, includes a rental rider which covers rental in the continental US of A, but does not include PR. (Perhaps they know something about Puerto Rican drivers :-)>

My insurance covers rentals. Be sure and take your policy with you. I highlighted the area saying they covered cars in PR. Jerry's Jeeps requires this. Also the credit care you rent with will many times cover you. Have a wonderful time.

My insurance agent will print out a page specifically stating that I am covered if I ask them to. No one has ever asked for it, including Jerry, and I never worry about it in the continental US, but I have taken the printed info with to Culebra and the Virgin Islands.

Thank you very much for all the answers. I am not sure your recommodations count for me, since i am from Denmark, Europe, but i will try to contact my insurance company and see what we can find out.
