If the sun sets on the West, the beach facing such direcction would be Tamarindo, there is Flamenco too, but it is facing more to the north.

The restaurant pavilion at Tamarindo is a terrific sunset spot with Luis Pena's profile adding to the beauty, but you need to check to see whether they are open. If you don't mind a short, brisk hike, walk over to Carlos Rosario. Don't overlook Punta Soldada. Last, but not least, the ferrydock in Dewey and the adjacent Playa Melones. Now you have five spots to choose from; try all five!

Doug just gave you the best advice for sunsets. Stayed at Tamarindo Estates for two weeks back in Oct. '04 and witnessed awesome sunsets over looking Luis Pena'. The helicopter pad on or near Mt. Resaca would be something that you should really check out. Gorgous views and I can only imagine the sunsets. Ricci's at Tamarindo is the best restaurant on the island. Treat yourself with a great meal + drink and beautiful scenery to boot!!!

I ma not sure about the hike up to Resaca, since I was contmplating the sunset for a wedding .. lthough maybe carting everybody up there with the local vaans might be fun.

what do you think?

The hike to the helicopter pad with a bunch of people may be a little too much. You can only go so far on the road before it becomes undriveable. The hike is somewhat steep and washed out. This hike is a good two person hike. Could be very romantic!!!

I was just out on the dirt road that goes past the road that goes up to the helicopter pad. It has been repaired so you can now drive up the concrete road to the right. Your vehicle will get scratched by the thorn bushes and a taxi will not take you, but it is passable now.

Can anyone give specific directions on how to get to the old helicopter pad. It sounds like the views are incredible, but judging by everything I've seen, no maps refer to it. Can someone describe specifically how to get there?
