Jet Ski

Hello everyone.

I am planing a trip to Culebra around the end of March. I understand that there are no Jet Ski rental shops there. But, if I happend to adquire one in the main Island, What would be the best way to transport it to Culebra? Do people ride them from Fajardo and vice versa? If so, what kind of passage should I expect to encounter? (i.e waves, wind, currents).

P.S. I am not crazy...just asking for sugestions!!!

There would be no way to get a jet ski to culebra, unless you brought it over on the cargo ferry. I am not even sure if they are allowed in the waters around Culebra. I did not see any when we were there. And no, you could not ride a jet ski from the main island to Culebra. Even on the very large ferry or a power cat, the water can be VERY rough. You can rent jet skis on Vieques, however.

I done some runs from Florida to Bahamas, and Tarragona to Mallorca on Jet Skis in the past. I was just wondering what the conditions would be around that area.

In the winter the swells coming out of the North can be rather LARGE. I've been on the ferry and have had them splashing into the side and over the bridge. So the distance might be ~15nm but the conditions could be less than desireable.

On another note, you may be frowned upon on a jetski around Culebra. They seem to go together like oil and water.

Either way, have a blast.

When we were down in Culebra we saw two jet skis running the chanel by Louis Pena....
Nothing a 50 caliber with a good scope couildn't have sunk real quick.
I dont think a sea turtle would think much of one of those obnocious machines bouncing off its shell.
I'm thinking you might have the wrong Island in mind for a vacation.
Try Cancun or some other noisy place.
Peacful Culebra should out law them for sure!

The Idea was more for Island Hoping; Culebra, St Thomas, St Croix, The Settlement...ect.

I did quite a bit of research and the weather conditions in that area are not bad at all, swells 6-8, winds 10-15, and the current is only 2 during normal periods.

A .50 cal w/scope? What are we talking about? over a 1000mt, on a 50-60 MPH moving target?...Bouncing off turtles shells?...Wow...what an imagination.

Its ok, I take the ferry, like I wrote on an earlier post.

Joe, I think it's doable. But you might have to wait for calm conditions. Especially since you are looking at an upwind passage. If you were to start out on St. Thomas - different story. Also the equipment might be cheaper.

This time I am just going to keep it simple and stay at the beach and hang out.
